Perspective I: The Parents of the Students Denied Into the Lemon Grove School
The parents here were infuriated when they found out that their children had been kept out of their own school, and they would fight as hard as they could to get them back in. They wanted a good education for their kids, and they weren't going to let just anybody keep them out of school. Why did the white people get to have the school, and the Mexicans have to settle for less? It wasn't fair, and the parents wanted equality.
Perspective II: The Lemon Grove School Board and Opposing Parents
The opposing parents and the school board had a problem with the children of the Mexican immigrants. They were slowing down the other students because they didn't speak English. "Why should our kids have to be slowed down by the Mexicans when they can learn with one another?" was the overall mentality. The Mexicans seemed to have bad habits to the white parents, and they didn't want their kids around that. It was for the Mexicans' own good.
