The Aftermath:
The First Push
Despite being significantly overlooked for its place in the desegregation of schools for the longest time, the Lemon Grove Incident is gaining more and more recongition for what happened. Historian Robert Alvarez Jr. points out how unusual this really was at this time in history. "This was the first situation when a group of immigrants had gotten together, challenged a school board and won." It was a first spark of change in a society that needed to break this giant barrier. The Lemon Grove Incident has not been forgotten, as it also was retold in a documentary and inspired a Newbery Award-winning book.
