The Denial:
An Unwelcome Surprise
It seemed as if it would be another peaceful day at the Lemon Grove Grammar School for a certain group of Latino kids that morning, but unbeknownst to them was the fact that something would happen that would change their view of the world forever. This would really challenge how they thought about their classmates and neighbors that lived alongside them in the community of Lemon Grove, California.

A Physical, Mental and Cultural Barrier
When the Latino kids arrived at the school, they were greeted by their school's principal, Jerome Green. He spoke to them, and told them that they now had a new school across town. The kids, surprised and shocked, went home and told their parents. Their parents were somewhat bewildered, and with some research, they found that this new school was situated in a barn and that the teachers had moved all of their belongings there. The children gave the new school the nickname "La Caballeriza". However, the parents were less amused. Appalled, the parents each told their kids they wouldn't have to go to this school, and decided that they would come together and fight to break this new barrier.
